Sleeping on the floor

Published by francisnw at 2:07 am under Backpackering Edit This

No matter how diligently you book your accomodation, every backpacker ends up sleeping on the floor at some point in time.  And a backpacker is rarely carrying around enough blankets and pillows to make just any floor comfortable.  The key to overcoming this situation is to utilise every object in the vacinity to try and reduce your discomfort.

I personally am fully aware which of the clothes in my backpack are the warmest, which are the softest…and which are somewhat clean.  These are often not clothes you had though, one must be particularly aware of buttons, zips and buckles.  Any towels and sheets you can find will add at least a thin layer of protection from the hard floor, and every little bit helps.

Believe me worse things can happen than sleeping on the floor, just make sure you have a roof over your head and do everything you can to keep warm.  To be honest no real backpacking is complete without a bit of slumming it on the floor.
